Abstract

The present study has as its basic purpose the understanding of how, in the current scenario, the impact of water diversions from the Araguaia River is and how the regulatory legal instruments act in terms of protection against such practices. This research aims to analyze the impacts of water diversions in the Araguaia River, based mainly on the analysis of the Water Resources Law, Law n. 9,433/97. The research problem is: what are the impacts of water diversions on the Araguaia River, and what does the Water Resources Law say about this practice? The methodology used was the literature review and legislation analysis, as well as a case study. It is understood that today the practice of irregular diversion of water from the Araguaia in favor of individual benefits is becoming increasingly common and that it is necessary to have legislation and regulatory bodies with regard to the protection of the river against such criminal attitudes. . Within this, the present work analyzes the most common practices in the diversion of irregular water from the river and who are mainly responsible, in addition to understanding what legislation is responsible for acting in this type of case and ensuring the fundamental good of which the environment is constituted. environment.
