GESTAÇÃO EM CÁRCERE NO BRASIL: Principais Desafios para a Enfermagem

Abstract

Introduction: Nursing care for pregnant women deprived of liberty represents a complex challenge, driven by the unique prison environment and the particular demands of pregnant women. Given the intricate dynamics of pregnancy among incarcerated women, which involves physical, emotional and social challenges, the need for prenatal care is highlighted to ensure the optimal health of both mother and baby. Objective: Identify and analyze the main obstacles faced in nursing care for pregnant women deprived of their liberty, highlighting the crucial importance of the role of nursing professionals in this context Method: This study employed a narrative review to analyze the challenges faced by nursing staff in providing prenatal care to women in the Brazilian prison system. The review was carried out through an extensive search in renowned electronic databases, including LILACS, MedLine and Google Scholar, using descriptors in Portuguese and English relevant to pregnancy, prisons and nursing care. Results: The results of this review highlight the unique challenges faced in prenatal care in prison settings, including deficiencies in professional characteristics and the inadequacy of available infrastructure. Despite legal guarantees, reality often fails to provide complete and humanized assistance to these pregnant women. It is notable that a significant portion of the female prison population consists of pregnant women, whose specific needs require special attention. In this scenario, the role of the nurse is fundamental, performing essential work in promoting the health of pregnant women. Its actions include preventive and assistance measures, which guarantee safety and quality throughout the gestational period. Conclusion: The lack of trained professionals and the lack of adequate infrastructure are obstacles that block immediate attention from health authorities and the prison system. Despite conditional legal guarantees, it is essential to implement policies and interventions that guarantee complete and humanized assistance to these women. The crucial role played by nurses in promoting the health of pregnant women in the prison environment cannot be underestimated. Its actions, both in prevention and treatment, are essential to guarantee the safety and well-being of pregnant women throughout the gestational period.
