Abstract:
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that requires
specialized, sensitive, and continuous attention from healthcare professionals
especially nurses, who work directly on the front lines of care. Considering the growing
demand for qualified and humanized assistance, this study aimed to evaluate the
knowledge of nursing professionals in Primary and Secondary Care during theassistance provided to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. To achieve this, an
integrative literature review was conducted, analyzing studies published between 2015
and 2025 in the SciELO, LILACS, and BVS databases. The results showed that nurses
face challenges such as gaps in academic training, lack of specific professional
development, and absence of standardized protocols. Despite these difficulties, their
role is essential in early screening, family support, and the development of
individualized care plans. It is concluded that continuing education combined with the
humanization of care and the inclusion of this topic in professional training is essential
to promote comprehensive and inclusive care for people with ASD.
