Abstract:
Even though there are laws that guide Brazilian traffic, the number of accidents and deaths is
still exorbitant. Realizing the impact that traffic accidents have on society, this study aimed to
analyze the effectiveness of current traffic legislation in mitigating accidents and risks. To
answer the problem question were analyzed scientific articles and books from the Google
Scholar platform, which had as keyword Traffic Lesion or Traffic Accidents. It was used as
filter for the selection of articles, the publication after 2014, after this filtering were selected
those articles that were believed to have relevance to this work. Statistical data from the
DETRAN of Goiás were also used. The research showed that the number of fines has been
decreasing in the last 3 years, suggesting that the current traffic legislation has been
effective in mitigating accidents and risks. However, it was also noted that there are still
many offending drivers, highlighting the need for awareness. It is concluded that pedestrians
and drivers need to respect the law and perceive it as an ally not as an enemy or as a mere
fundraiser for the state. Thus exposing the importance of the application of traffic rules and
laws, as they give priority to the defense of life, as well as the preservation of health and the
environment through traffic agencies and entities. Highlighting the issue of the individual, the
future driver and road user when driving motor vehicles, must have: Driving License, drive
without influence of alcohol, comply with the law and respect the Brazilian Traffic Code,
under penalty of suffering sanctions in both CTB, Civil and also Criminal codes, thus
ensuring the safety of all road users whether pedestrians, vehicles and animals, isolated or in
groups, conducted or not.
