Abstract:
The present work aimed to analyze the Brazilian political system in the light of the democratic principle. Initially broad considerations regarding democracy and electoral law were developed. Thus, notions of politics and democracy were explained, as well as concepts related to sovereignty, popular power and popular participation. A study was also made concerning the elementary questions about electoral law, notably the concept, object and sources of electoral law. Then, the aspects related to the Brazilian electoral process were also exposed, when topics such as suffrage and voting were discussed. The rules on electoral financing were observed on their own topic, at which time party and electoral financing were studied, with all their limitations and implications.
