Abstract:
The Brazilian Criminal Execution Law was designed to ensure that the enforcement of
sentences is in accordance with the principle of dignity, so that the rights to food, health,
hygiene, education, among others, are guaranteed. It is the duty of the State to provide
conditions for detainees, conditions that contribute to their social reintegration. Based on
the assumption that education is the best instrument for the reintegration of the inmates,
as well as for the prevention of new crimes, projects for basic, secondary and professional
education have been developed in Brazilian prisons. However, the present work intends to
analyze a re-socialization work developed in the state of Wyoming, in the United States, in
order to make an evaluation on the possibilities of an effective prison education program.
This is a bibliographic work, supported by current legislation in Brazil, as well as readings
by authors such as Ramatiz Soares Pereira, Paula Bajer, Damasio Jesus, Daiane
Rodrigues Zanotto, Iris Saraiva Russowsky, among others that provided relevant
discussions, about the proposed theme Due to these ideas, there is a real need for a new
discussion about the applicability of the legislation, since the result of the most varied
studies converge to the premise that education is the best mechanism for the prisoner's
resocialization.
