Abstract:
Introduction. The pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) coronavirus has infected and left thousands of people dead in Brazil and around the world. Health crises like this negatively impact the mental health of the population. As well as the mass mourning generated by the pandemic, the dissemination measures imposed by the authorities and other complications, such as the collapse of the Unified Health System (SUS), economic crises, unemployment, favor or aggravate psychological problems, which interfere in life as a whole, of an individual. Goal. This study aimed to report the main mental health symptoms that occurred in this period of health crisis, emphasizing the importance of balanced mental health. Methodology. The methodology used for this literature review was based on scientific articles from reliable databases and health journals, which portray the results of the negative impacts caused by the Covid-19 pandemic on the adult public in general. Results and discussion. The results demonstrate how much this pandemic has impacted the life of society, a fact that has occurred and little seen in centuries, however, the emerging need for mental health care is evident. Final considerations. The symptoms are more prevalent in people with psychological problems already installed, young adults, women, people from the risk group, low education level and unbalanced mental health can affect the human being in all its dimensions, being evident the need for care in mental health.
