Abstract:
This study investigated the fable and moralization as an object, in view of its presence in early
childhood education as well as its uses to create a docile and indoctrinated body according to
Foucault’s view (2013). Through a bibliographical research it was tried to investigate the
theme: moralization and mediation in fables. In order to understand this question, the overall
objective was to reflect on the reason why the fable genre is still used due to its utilitarian
nature. The specific objectives were: to discuss literary reading in early childhood education;
to analyze the relevance of the reading in documents which guide this early childhood
education; and to think about the moralization of the literary genre named fable. The
theoretical path of this investigation was based on Rousseau to verify the use of fables at
schools. It was also based on Monteiro Lobato because of his innovative work with this
textual genre. Furthermore, its informal educational proposal stands out when he chooses
Dona Benta, a housewife, to be the mediator for reading fables to her grandchildren and the
farm residents. This work was also based on Foucault’s view in order to examine the
disciplinary power and its institutions of action, including the school. Other reflections were
raised in order to understand the literary reading and the pedagogical mediation based on the
epistemology of praxis. At the same time, the look was extended towards the documents that
guide early childhood education to find out the guidelines to work with fables in this stage of
education. The use of this genre as a tool to conform bodies and docile minds was also
investigated. Therefore, the investigation allowed the verification that the problem is not
focused on the text used by the teacher, but on the pedagogical mediation which, among other
functions, needs to be guided towards the formation of a critical reader. This intent becomes
possible by deconstructing the project for the formation of docile bodies starting from a laic
public school.
