Abstract:
Introduction: People living with HIV have presented a higher frequency of
psychiatric complications, among which the consumption of psychoactive
substancesstands out. Alcohol is the most common psychoactive substance and is
associated with high-risk sexual behavior. Objective: To identify the prevalence of
alcohol use among PLHIV in Brazil. Methodology: this is a narrative literature
review, carried out through searches in Lilacs, SciELO and Google Scholar
databases. Discussion: High alcohol consumption is common among seropositive
patients, and is related to poorer adherence to ART, greater risk of developing
health problems and vulnerability to risky sexual behavior. Conclusion:Data found
in the literature indicatethat the prevalence of alcohol consumption by patients with
HIV is high.
