Abstract:
The Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic quickly spread around the
world, changing the routine of individuals and challenging the ways in which health and dental services are provided. Reports of bruxism in children were observed
during this period, which may be influenced by the numerous psychological and
social factors related to the pandemic. Objective: perform a literature review of the
COVID-19 pandemic and child bruxism in Brazil. Methodology: search for studies in
the databases: PubMED, SciELO, Science Direct, LILACS, Web of Science and
Google Scholar, according to the descriptors: Bruxism, Children, and COVID.
Results: Initially, 458 studies were found and after applying the eligibility criteria, titles
and abstracts read, and full text read, a total of 4 studies were included. Studies have
found that the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have generated too much
emotional stress in children due to major routine changes and in response to this
psychological stress, an increase in reports of child bruxism has been noted in
Dentistry. Conclusion: prospective studies are suggested to better clarify the
relationship between COVID-19 and child bruxism and to expand information
services and multidisciplinary care for children and their families, thus allowing
contributions to scientific evidence and promotion of quality of life.
