Abstract:
Canine distemper (CVD) is caused by the virus which is highly contagious and lethal.
It is the most highly infectious disease and known worldwide as the main disease of
domestic dogs. Its mortality rate is second only to rabies, which affects carnivores
and domestic dogs of any age. Within this reality, acupuncture has emerged as an
effective tool in the treatment of sequelae left by the disease. In view of this scenario,
a systematic review of the literature was carried out, in which 20 articles were
analyzed with case studies of distemper sequelae where dogs were submitted to
acupuncture treatment, sometimes accompanied by conventional treatment,
sometimes used in isolation. The results showed that acupuncture is a viable and
effective treatment for canine distemper sequelae.
