Abstract:
The aim of this study was to discuss the challenges faced by nursing in caring for
women who are victims of sexual violence. It was based on the assumption that care
for women who suffer this type of violence should be based on welcoming,
corroborating with technical care. Understanding violence as an act that subjugates
women and places them in a situation of psycho-emotional vulnerability due to the
physical, psychological and emotional scars, as well as being a public health
problem, nursing interventions should also focus on restoring the dignity of these
victims. The aim of this study was therefore to describe violence against women,
address the physical and psychological consequences and identify the reasons that lead women to remain in a violent relationship, in order to characterize the
challenges facing nursing in the face of these occurrences. The methodology used
was bibliographical research, defining this article as a review based on the theoretical
survey carried out. Among the main challenges for nursing practice are ethical and
legal issues, the diagnosis of violence and the apparent lack of preparation of
professionals for qualified care.
