Abstract:
Objective: the present study aims to identify the factors that lead to early weaning.
Breastfeeding during the first hour of a newborn's life is essential for the mother’s and
baby’s health. In addition to establishing an emotional bond between them, this
practice significantly reduces the risk of neonatal death by stimulating the production
of breast milk. For these reasons, early breastfeeding is extremely important for
maternal and child health. Methodology: this is an integrative review study
conducted between August and October 2023. The PubMed, VHL and SciELO
databases were utilized in this study from 2019 to 2023. Conclusion: among the
factors that lead to the interruption of breastfeeding before that recommended by the
OMS are the use of pacifiers, cultural beliefs, return to work, among others
considerations. It was possible to perceive the deficiency in nursing care during the prenatal and postpartum periods to clarify doubts, assist in correct latch-on, and
guide the mother about the importance of breastfeeding.
