Abstract:
Childhood cancer is a disease that affects not only the child, but also their entire
family. Diagnosis and treatment can have a significant emotional impact, such as
fear, anxiety, sadness and hopelessness. In this context, the role of the hospital
psychologist becomes essential to support the child and family throughout the
process. This study aims to analyze the contribution of hospital psychologists in
helping children and their families experience cancer, highlighting the importance of
interdisciplinary work and a patient- and family-centered approach. Through a
literature review, the main practices and instructions developed by the hospital
psychologist will be presented, as well as the results obtained in relation to the
emotional well-being and quality of life of the child and their family. This work is expected to highlight the importance of the role of the hospital psychologist in the
comprehensive and humanized care of children with cancer and their families.
