Abstract:
Palliative care is assistance provided to patients who have no possibility of cure, aiming at
receiving and comforting the patient and their family members. In this aspect, the objective of
this work was to describe the role of nurses in palliative care with regard to the humanization
of cancer patients. The work methodology was an integrative literature review, using the
descriptors “Cancer”, “Nursing”, “Care”, in the LILACS (Latin American and Caribbean
Literature in Health Sciences) and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) databases. Articles published between 2009 and 2019, available in full, in Portuguese, were considered.
Regarding the results, after careful selection, only five articles composed this integrative
review, all of which are based on SciELO. It is observed through the studies researched that the
nurse’s performance in palliative care in a more humanized way results in greater survival of
patients compared to others who do not receive such care.
