Abstract:
The study aimed to discuss the importance of joint mobility for better performance in
the squat exercise. To this end, the study addresses the concept of joint mobility, the
consequences of the lack of mobility when practicing squats and presents some
suggestions for exercises that contribute to improving joint movements. The
methodology was bibliographical research, characterizing this article as a review,
constructed from a survey of books, articles and other publications related to the
subjects “squats” and “joint mobility”. It was found that problems with joint mobility
make it difficult and/or prevent the execution of squats, and when this execution is
forced, it can trigger the activation of stabilizing joints, which can, as a result, lead to
injuries. Exercises such as dorsiflexion with elevated bands and active bands, hip
extension, hip abduction + rotation, hip hamstring stretch and thoracic spine are some
of the many that can help improve joint movements.
