Abstract:
The pediatric population is more susceptible to suffering damage and adverse
reactions after using medications due to the physiological immaturity of their organism. Self-medication practices generated by the irrational use of medications,
caused by a lack of knowledge and pediatric medication options, leads to this major
problem in the area of children's health. In this scenario, the pharmacist can play a
central role, since he is a health professional with technical knowledge and
accessible to the public. Therefore, pharmaceutical care practices can be an
essential tool in the care of pediatric patients. Therefore, the objective of this article is
to understand and analyze the importance of pharmacists for these patients, in
addition to conceptualizing terms, reporting the main problems related to pediatric
medicines, in addition to highlighting the importance of rational use of medicines and
evaluating possible interventions to solve this problem. This article is a literature
review, based on magazines and scientific articles focused on the health area, with
periodicity from 2013 to 2023.
