Abstract:
This article aims to present results of studies that relate literary reading and social
media consumption. The objective of the study is to understand the circumstances of
the formation of literary readers in elementary school - early years - in the face of the
increasing consumption of videos on the internet. The specific objectives of the
research are to identify the functions of literature and its importance in human
development, analyze the impact of social networks on the reading development of
school children and reflect on the role of literary reading in a context of high
consumption of content in the media. A bibliographical research was carried out
using articles published in the last ten years on the subject. An interpretative analysis
of website content was carried out and, through Adnews, we were able to collect
videos on the YouTube platform. Videos related to reading, such as storytelling and
literature for children, were also made for the study. Candido (1982), Freire (1981)
Abramovich (2005), Barros (2013), Coelho (2000), were summoned as a theoretical
contribution to think about the functions of reading and literature. It also has research
support such as Google Scholar, articles and scientific journals. As a result, we reflect
that social networks can help the process of training literary readers, but not replace
them, which can cause serious damage to the human development of students.
