Abstract:
This article reports the use of Bauhinia forficata as an adjuvant in the treatment of
type 2 diabetes mellitus, evaluating the hypoglycemic effect of the plant, popularly
known as pata-de-vaca, which has biological components with pharmacological
properties, including flavonoids, mainly responsible for its anti-glycemic activity.
Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the contributions that the medicinal plant
Bauhinia forficata offers to the glycemic control of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The study is an integrative bibliographic review through a succinct search in
scientific databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed/Medline (National Library of
Medicine and National Institutes of Health) and Scielo (Scientific Electronic Library
Online) seek to prove the therapeutic benefits of the vegetable. Eight articles
published between the years 2013 and 2023 were selected, among which seven of
them showed positive results of the medicinal plant for glycemic control in patients
with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Although further studies are still needed, Bauhinia
forficata has potential hypoglycemic activity , can be acquired at low cost, in addition,
no toxic effects on the body resulting from its use have been proven.
