Abstract:
The present study carried out an integrative review on exogenous intoxication and sought to contribute to a greater discussion about the topic: emphasizing the factors, clinical symptoms, toxics, consequences of intoxication and the profile of patients, pointing out possible behaviors mainly to the health professional on this theme that it is a public health problem. To reach the proposed goal, a search was made through consultations with the collection of the Virtual Health Library (VHL). Through the advanced search and with the use of the words poisoning, nursing care and nursing, 15 articles were selected. Intoxication proved to be a real and well-known practice among the population and health professionals, as well as the involvement of this practice can be accidental and intentional. The most toxic were the medications, followed by pesticides and later by the insecticides. The main sex was male and the main cause was the suicide attempt followed by personal problems, child accidents, occupational accidents, venomous animals and lastly drug abuse. The main complication of intoxication was death. The main behaviors facing the patient were observation, vital signs, orientation and gastric lavage. Therefore, the main measure suggested for the control of this affection was the awareness from the orientation not only to obtain immediate results, but also in the long term so that the occurrence of new cases decreases
