Abstract:
This study aims to evaluate polio vaccination coverage, and the coverage of the
Family Health Strategy (ESF) in the different health regions in the state of Goiás. It is
an epidemiological study of a historical series using secondary data obtained from
health systems information managed by the Ministry of Health (MS) for vaccine and
ESF data, from 2013 to 2020. The analysis was based on descriptive criteria through
the distribution of absolute and relative frequencies. In the period between 2017 and
2019, no health region in Goiás reached the target established by the MS for polio,
ESF coverage also suffered a drop in most health regions during the period
analyzed, without impacting the improvement in vaccination coverage. The risk of
polio reintroduction has increased with the decline in polio vaccination coverage over
recent years. Managers must prioritize resources for Primary Care, as strengthening the ESF is crucial for developing strategies that can change the scenario of falling
vaccination coverage.
