Abstract:
The aim of this scientific article is to demonstrate the importance of protecting and
restoring legally protected areas, specifically focusing on permanent preservation
areas (APPs), given their fundamental role in biodiversity conservation. Thus, a
question is proposed: What is the need for the development of scientific research as a
methodological approach to the preservation of APPs, notably in the urban perimeter,
to be applied in contemporary times? Year after year, environmental disasters claim
lives and cause destruction, which could be avoided with the recovery and preservation
of the aforementioned areas, as well as with better land use. An APP is an area
composed of vegetation, natural or non-natural, protected by Brazilian environmental
legislation, which aims to safeguard water resources, geological stability, biodiversity,
and human well-being. However, disorganized occupation and lack of social
awareness have led to the degradation and destruction of these areas, compromising
their ability to deliver socio-environmental benefits sustainably. In this context, it is
necessary to take effective measures to protect and restore the APP, including the
active participation of different social actors, such as public authorities, civil society,
and the private sector.
