Abstract:
Karate is an oriental martial art that originated in China, 6th century AD, and has
fundamental principles that are interconnected with the process of cognitive
development of the human being. Psychomotricity is a transdisciplinary field of study
that analyzes the relationship between the psyche and motor skills. This work aims to
analyze the impact of karate practice on the psychomotor development of children
and adolescents by analyzing articles found in the following databases: Google
Scholar and CAPES, Portal de Periódicos and banks of Theses and Dissertations.
The results of the selected papers were that karate is an advantage for the proper
and controlled performance of tasks; and that karate helps the motor, cognitive and
social development of children and adolescents. The study shows that karate promotes psychomotor development, as it promotes the development of skills such
as laterality, alternation, peripheral vision and rapid motor response.
