Abstract:
Introduction: The diagnosis of RVF is difficult because its signs and symptoms are
scarce. To help with the diagnosis, we have imaging tests, including periapical
radiography and CBCT. Objective: The objective of this work was to review the
literature on the use of periapical radiography and cone beam computed tomography
in the diagnosis of vertical root fractures. Methodology: This present study consists
of a narrative literature review, covering publications between 2006 and 2022 in the
main databases, such as PubMed, MedLine, Scielo, Google Scholar and LILACS.
Results: Studies show that CBCT is superior in diagnosing RVFs when compared toperiapical radiography. Data such as accuracy proved to be superior for CBCT.
Conclusion: CBCT is more accurate than periapical radiography, but the presence
of artifacts can limit its use. It is necessary to pay attention to the exposure
parameters used during image acquisition, ensuring the best possible visualization of
the fracture line.
