Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the use of herbal medicines as a complementary
treatment in children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), a neurological
condition that affects communication, social interaction and repetitive behaviors. The
methodology adopted was based on a bibliographic review of articles published
between 2018-2024, focusing on the efficiency and safety of herbal medicines
compared to conventional therapies. Partial results indicate that herbal medicines can
contribute to the improvement of behavioral and sleep symptoms, although there is
significant variability in patient response. It is concluded that, despite the promising
potential of herbal medicines as complementary therapy, medical supervision and the
need for more research are essential to standardize the efficient use of these
treatments.
