Abstract:
The use of new technologies in the dental field has increased during the execution of
many clinical procedures performed by dental surgeons. Among these procedures,
the most notable has been the replacement of traditional impressions with intraoral
scanning. The aim of this study was to compare conventional with digital impression
techniques. For the research, the databases PubMed, Scielo, and Google Scholar
were used. A total of 32 studies were found, of which 22 met the pre established
inclusion criteria. It was possible to observe the predominance of digital impressions
in the majority of the articles reviewed. However, when choosing between
conventional and digital traditional techniques, it was important to consider the individual needs of the patient, the skills of the dental team and laboratory, as well as
clinical, technological, and economic factors. This decision was made considering the
best balance between efficiency, accuracy, and quality for each specific situation.
