SAÚDE MENTAL DE MULHERES PROFISSIONAIS DO SEXO

Abstract

The theme of this scientific article is the mental health of women sex workers. Thegeneral objectives were: to understand the conditions that influence mental health and identify the factors that maintain mental health. And, the specific objectives were: a) to analyze the conditions of human dignity of adult female sexual work; b) verify the impact of the social context on the quality of life and well-being of adult female sex workers; c) examine the context of mental illness that commonly accompanies the lives of female sex workers; d) discuss about the possible development of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other mental health complications. The methodology used is narrative review, through which explicit and systematic criteria are not required to search and analyze existing literature on the topic. To this end, authors such as: Ferreira (2016); Gonçalves, Barbosa and Oliveira (2014); Neuber (1994); Rodrigues Filho (2014); Scavone (2023); Silva, Justo and Peres (2018); Ventura (2023); and, also, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948). The text was structured into the following subtopics: mental health, well-being and quality of human life; and, mental health of female sex workers. Finally, the need to promote public policies that develop inclusive and equitable actions that improve the existential conditions of these women, expanding their state of well-being and quality of life, was highlighted.
