Abstract:
Colorectal cancer is a prevalent health problem that has been increasing over the
years, with a high incidence in Brazil and worldwide. The main cause of the
development of this neoplasia are environmental factors associated with risk factors,
corresponding to the largest percentage of cases. It is important to highlight the role of
diet and lifestyle in the prevention of colorectal cancer, since the disease usually
presents symptoms in its most advanced stage. The objective was to analyze the correlation between food and the development of colorectal cancer and to understand
the risk factors that contribute to the development of this disease. This is a literature
review on the impact of diet and the development of cancer and the reasons for the
increase in the incidence of cases. As a result, it is highlighted that diet plays a role in
both the prevention and development of cancer. With healthy habits, the occurrence
associated with risk factors can be reduced by 30 to 40%. It is concluded that a healthy
diet acts in the prevention of colorectal cancer. Thus, the population should be made
aware of the benefits of adopting a healthy lifestyle.
