Abstract:
Recurrent urinary tract infections are determined by diagnoses of three incidences over
a period of six months, this is the average time and quantity that some patients reported
suffering from; a topic of public health discussion from a medical point of view around
the world. Causing symptoms such as pain, burning, discomfort when urinating,
hematuria, depending on whether the case progresses to hospitalization, it largely
harms women, as it is caused by the installation of the bacteria Escherichia coli along
with low immunity, inappropriate behavioral habits such as lack of intimate hygiene,
reproductive age, biological individualities, becoming a UTI. This disease is treated
with the use of antibiotics, for example: nitrofurantoin, ciprofloxacin, etc.; In specific
cases where they occur with recurrence, doctors are observing the need to use a
combination of one or more antibiotics, higher dosages and prolongation of treatments,
and noting the emergence of other problems such as bacterial resistance, whether due
to self-medication or inappropriate use of medications , representing a failure in
treatment and an obstacle to healing and the case becoming increasingly worse.
Probiotic strains (Lactobacillus rhamnosus GR-1 and Lactobacillus reuteri RC-14)
have been emerging as a way to complement antibiotic treatment in recurrent cases of
UTIs, acting as prophylactic agents and considerably reducing recurrence, as they act
to restore the intestinal and vaginal microbiota, increasing the bioavailability time of the
antibiotic, modulating the immunological response, reducing these side effects, such
as: dysbiosis, colic; and with this helping to maintain balance, it must be done with the
supervision of a trained health professional, the treatment of this patient must be
evaluated with the aim of resolving the infection, restoring her quality of life and wellbeing
in the long term.
