Abstract:
In recent decades, there have been several changes in society, which have led to an
increase in life expectancy. Consequently, aging has become a more present part of
everyday life, which has led to a greater search for aesthetic procedures that slow
down skin aging and enhance beauty. In recent years, the use of fillers for facial
cosmetic treatments, such as hyaluronic acid, has grown significantly in Brazil and
internationally. Hyaluronic acid is a molecule in our body that resides in the
extracellular matrix to give volume to the skin, providing support, hydration, and
elasticity. It can be used as an injection to reduce the effects of aging on the face.
Although its moisturizing properties are incredible, there is a risk of side effects that
require care to be avoided. This work aims to present a literature review on the
properties and use of hyaluronic acid, presenting the complications and
intercurrences that may arise as a result of its use, as well as the benefits and
complications. This is a bibliographic review. The keywords used were: hyaluronic
acid, facial aging, aesthetics, complications, facial fillers. The research was
conducted in the following databases: Google Scholar and Scielo, and ten studies
published between 2020 and 2023 were selected. It can be concluded that hyaluronic
acid fillers are effective and safe when performed by an experienced and cautious
professional, with the patient's collaboration in following the guidelines. Prevention of
application errors can be achieved through professional prudence and patient
responsibility in following the recommendations.
