Abstract:
Osteosarcoma is the most prevalent primary malignant bone tumor. The primary
treatment for osteosarcoma is a combination of chemotherapy and surgery. This study
aims to analyze the clinical characteristics and metastatic potential of OSA, and
determine the best therapeutic approach in cases of unfavorable prognosis of this
pathology. The methodology consists of an integrative literature review, through
qualitative and descriptive analysis of articles chosen from 2019 to 2024, in
Portuguese, English and Spanish, obtained from various scientific platforms. The
results show that identification and diagnosis are extremely important to establish the best intervention to be chosen. Chemotherapy helps the animal's longevity, however,
there has been no recent progress in its role in improving the long-term survival of
these patients. The research concludes that although there are options to be taken,
when the malignancy is not curable, euthanasia should be considered the only option
to preserve the animal's dignity and not subject it to pain and suffering.
