Abstract:
This study aimed to analyze the role of nurses in managing worker safety in the Central
Sterile Supply Department (CSSD), considering the structural, regulatory, and
organizational challenges that permeate the sector. This is bibliographic research,
based on national and international publications available in the SciELO, LILACS, andPubMed databases, published between 2020 and 2025. The analysis showed that
nurses play a strategic role in the planning, coordination, and supervision of material
processing stages, directly influencing the quality of care and occupational safety. The
studies also point to limitations related to inadequate infrastructure, work overload,
exposure to occupational risks, and insufficient structured continuing education
programs. Traceability technologies and educational practices based on active
methodologies emerge as promising strategies to improve the safety culture. It is
concluded that strengthening the role of nurses in the CSSD requires continuous
institutional investments, professional training, and integration between technical
standards and management practices.
