Abstract:
The inefficiency of the Brazilian prison system is observed every time that the adopted
prison management model is observed, this inefficiency is even more impactful when
we face the failure to fulfill the main objective of incarceration, resocialization.
Therefore, this paper aims to question the problem of current management methods
used in Brazilian public prisons, proposing an alternative to this system through
privatization. Measures for a possible change in the current Brazilian prison scenario
are increasingly recurrent, all so that there is a satisfactory increase in the quality of the
infrastructure and management of Brazilian prison units, consequently causing a
positive impact on the current resocialization rates in our country. It seeks to analyze
whether the privatized prison units are more efficient in the use of prison policies, which
reflect directly on the resocialization of the prisoner. From this analysis, the objective is
to highlight the importance of a more effective prison policy, highlighting the differences
between public and private management of the prison systems that adopt them. This
study is structured with three aspects: Penal humanism, prison privatization and factors
resulting from prison privatization.
