Abstract:
The main objective of this study is to point out the importance of nursing professionals regarding the prevention of early weaning, highlighting the actions that can be taken to make this happen. It is an integrative review study, which searched the literature available online scientific articles with the descriptors: breastfeeding, early weaning and nursing. The articles were analyzed in two phases. In the first one the titles and abstracts were read and excluded to those duplicated in more than one database. In the second, the articles were read in full. A total of 28 articles were selected, according to the selection criteria. From this reading, four categories emerged to better analyze the data: 1) Actions to promote breastfeeding; 2) Risk factors for early weaning; 3) Nurses' performance against early weaning and 4) Experiences and experiences of mothers. The nurse was perceived as a prominent professional in the prevention of early weaning, working from prenatal, childbirth and puerperium, acting to welcome the mother and guide her in this breastfeeding process.
