Abstract:
Introduction. Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) are a major public health problem in the
world and in Brazil, and it is noted that some population groups are disproportionately affected
by these infections. In Brazil, high prevalences were identified in young people. Goal. From
this perspective, the objective of this study was to identify the epidemiological profile of STIs
in Brazilian youth, according to scientific publications. Methodology. This is an integrative
review, carried out between March and October 2021. Studies with primary cross-sectional data and cohort studies, published in the last five years, in Portuguese, English and Spanish, were
included. The search strategy followed the steps of the PICo search strategy, based on the search
question and selection of controlled and uncontrolled descriptors. Duplicate articles, public
notices, opinion articles, experience reports, reviews, monographs, dissertations and theses
were excluded. Result and Discussion. The results showed that there was an increase in bacterial
and viral STIs, as well as an early onset of sexual life and other types of risky sexual behavior
such as: consumption of alcohol and other drugs, multiple sexual partners and unprotected sex.
Final considerations. We conclude with this study that it was possible to identify the
epidemiological profile of sexually transmitted infections in young people according to
scientific publications, thus noting the need for greater investments in prevention and control
programs for STIs, aimed at young people in Brazil.
