Abstract:
The objective of this study is to identify the prevalence of Herpes Virus in the Brazilian
population, according to publications from the last ten years (2012-2022). Herpes
simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and type 2 (HSV-2) are viruses that establish lifelong
infections in humans. The main route of transmission of HSV-1 is oral, although sexual
transmission is increasingly common in Western countries and Asia. Sexual
transmission is the main route of transmission of HSV-2. Infection by these viruses is
often latent and asymptomatic, with frequent reactivations and occasional intermittent
symptomatic episodes. This is a narrative review of the literature. The search took
place in the following electronic databases: Latin American and Caribbean Literature
on Health Sciences (LILACS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO) and
PubMed. The findings of this study showed the prevalence of Herpes Virus infection in
the Brazilian population, according to publications from the last ten years (2012-2022).
Most studies showed a higher prevalence in elderly individuals (over 60 years of age),
which can affect both sexes.
