Abstract:
Introduction: Atraumatic restorative treatment is a minimally invasive curative
technique, which includes preventive measures in relation to dental caries and the
control of this disease, the treatment is carried out only with the use of sharp manual
instruments and with adhesive restorative material, usually cement of glass ionomer.
The treatment is increasingly common in Dentistry, a series of advantages attributed
to Atraumatic Restorative Treatment can be considered, such as increased comfort
for the patient, low cost and ease of the technique, when the professional knows the
step by step. Objective: to carry out a literature review addressing AtraumaticRestorative Treatment as an alternative procedure that can be widely used in
Dentistry. Methodology: used is bibliographic through a literature review, the
bibliographical survey was done in electronic material. Results and discussion:
With the articles separated for the literary review, one can discuss the advantages of
ART that had already been highlighted in the literature, and highlighting the
advantages of its application such as: patient comfort, accessibility, low cost and
easy handling by the professional. Conclusion: with the study, we can conclude that
the Atraumatic Restorative Treatment is a viable and effective treatment that can be
widely used, consistent with the context of minimal intervention.
