Abstract:
Health Services Waste (RSS) is a topic that is currently much discussed, due to
population growth. The largest amount of management generated worldwide in the
last decade was in the American continent. Even with legislation that assists in the
proper disposal of RSS, there is still incorrect disposal, especially of needles and
syringes. This work intends to analyze the disposal of waste produced by diabetic
patients using insulin therapy at home, describe how this process is carried out and
identify if there is guidance regarding the correct disposal of waste generated. This is
an integrative review carried out in the MEDLINE, LILACS and BDEN databases. A
total of 126,655 articles were found, but only 10 met the inclusion criteria. The
findings show the incorrect disposal of waste by the patient at home and the lack of
guidance on how to perform this procedure. The lack of health education on the part of professionals is notable, but also of commitment on the part of patients, requiring
public policies to reinforce education for professionals and patients about the
disposal of RSS.
