Abstract:
Endodontics deals with restoring the shape and function of the tooth, seeking to
maintain adequate periradicular condition. Via chemical and mechanical methods,
such as sanitizing the root canals, modeling and subsequent filling of the root canal
with biocompatible filling material, the removal of the infectious condition and dental
inflammation is expected. One of the variations commonly found in relation to a dental element is related to the number of roots or root canals. An atypical
anatomical pattern requires care, careful radiographic analysis and appropriate
endodontic techniques in order to reduce therapeutic difficulties and achieve
successful treatment. The present study is a case report carried out in a dental clinic
belonging to a higher education institution located in the city of Inhumas, Goiás. The
case study focused on a patient in need of endodontic treatment on an upper second
molar. on the left side with anatomical variation. This dental element can present
several anatomical variations, including the possibility of containing two to six root
canals. This diversity represents a challenge of considerable relevance that ends up
making it difficult to adequately prepare the channel.
