Abstract:
Foundations, in Civil Engineering, are the bases of buildings, because they transmit
the weight of the construction onto the ground and prevent major problems from
occurring. They are fundamental to the safety and stability of the structure. In this
context, the general objective that guided this investigation stands out: to analyze the
types of foundations used in houses and buildings in Ituiutaba/MG. To this end, a
script was developed containing eighteen questions to be used in interviews with civil
engineers responsible for five different projects in the city, namely: houses, buildings,
businesses and industrial enterprises. The results obtained showed that the most
used foundations are excavated piles, due to their low cost and ease of labor. It was
observed that some aspects hampered the progress of the works, such as: lack of
geotechnical investigation in the first and second works; schedule delays due to
unexpected problems; unprepared labor in residential work meant that the entire
project had to be modified and the delivery time increased; problems in planning and
budgeting meant that multi-family buildings had a different cost and resulted in losses
for the client. The research was fundamental in demonstrating the importance of
project planning and execution of foundations, as shown in the five interviews
presented. For future work, it is suggested that more constructions be investigated
and more engineers responsible for collecting data and verifying the types of
structure of the projects researched, including the materials used, the acting loads,
variable loads and self-weight. With this scientific article, it is possible to highlight the
importance of geotechnical research for each construction.
