Abstract:
The present work aims to report the principles of patient preparation for oncological
surgery. Patient preparation includes more in-depth clinical, physical, laboratory and
imaging examinations as a basis for the best choice of drugs used in anesthesia. In
this sense, this article was based on a literature review, report and analysis of a
clinical case of a dog undergoing lumpectomy and ovariosalpingohisterectomy (OSH)
surgery, with a previous diagnosis of a malignant tumor of the mammary gland
treated at the school clinic. from the Unimais university center in Inhumas. The
management of cancer patients requires attention from pain management to the
choice of pre-operative, operative and post-operative anesthetic approach. Thus, toreport and analyze a clinical case of a dog undergoing lumpectomy surgery with a
previous diagnosis of malignant tumor of the mammary gland attended at the
teaching clinic of the Unimais de Inhumas university center and compare the
procedures performed in the clinical case with what It is carried out in the routine of
the oncological surgical clinic, paralleling the recommendations highlighted in the
literature review.
