Abstract:
This work addresses the issue of medication adherence in the elderly, a significant challenge
that affects the effectiveness of treatments and the quality of life of this constantly growing
population in Brazil. The objective of this study is to verify the role of the pharmacist's office
in improving medication adherence in the elderly, identifying the specific challenges that the
elderly face in relation to treatment adherence. To this end, a literature review was carried out,
with a selection of eight articles that address different aspects of this topic, from 2013 to 2023.
The results indicate that the role of the pharmacist, especially in pharmaceutical offices and
clinical environments, plays a fundamental role in individualized monitoring of the elderly,
contributing to the identification and resolution of problems related to medications.
Furthermore, the integration of the multidisciplinary team and the use of technology are also
important aspects to improve medication adherence in the elderly. Finally, this study highlights
the importance of pharmaceutical care and integrated approaches to ensure effective treatment
and a better quality of life for the elderly.
