Abstract:
Introduction: Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been extensive
discourse and utilization of Ivermectin, often without discrimination and relying on
unsubstantiated information. Objective: This study endeavors to scrutinize the
administration of Ivermectin within the COVID-19 framework, assessing its
effectiveness, safety, and the challenges posed by associated misinformation.
Methodology: Employing electronic databases and stringent inclusion and exclusion
criteria, a narrative and integrative review of the literature was conducted. Results and
Discussion: Findings disclose a divergence of perspectives regarding the efficacy and
safety of Ivermectin, whereby some studies indicate potential advantages alongside
noteworthy risks, notably liver toxicity and drug interactions. Moreover, the proliferation
of misinformation has fueled a surge in the indiscriminate usage of the drug. Final
considerations: Given the revelations, the significance of a prudent stance towards
Ivermectin utilization in COVID-19 is underscored, underscoring the imperative for
educational initiatives aimed at debunking misinformation and fostering the judicious
use of pharmaceuticals.
