Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the role of nursing in the prevention and control of
hospital infections in Intensive Care Units (ICUs). A quantitative and qualitative
approach was adopted, based on a literature review with research on the Google
Scholar and SciELO platforms, resulting in the selection of 16 relevant articles. The
data indicate that hospital infections represent a serious public health problem, with
high rates of morbidity and mortality. ICUs, by their nature, present a high risk for the
development of these infections, and the role of the nurse is crucial in the
implementation of preventive practices. The research revealed that the adoption of
strict protocols, combined with hospital certification, can reduce the incidence of
infections by more than 70%. Humanized care emerges as an essential factor in
promoting patient dignity and strengthening the relationship of trust between the
health team and hospitalized patients. The conclusions highlight the importance of
continuous training and mastery of specific skills so that nurses play an effective role
in combating hospital infections, ensuring safe and quality care.
