Abstract:
Introduction : The study aims to assess the crucial role of the obstetric nurse in conducting humanized natural childbirth. The nurse supports the pregnant woman from the first prenatal consultation to the care of the newborn. Objective : To describethe role of the obstetric nurse in providing care for humanized natural childbirth. Method : This is a narrative review with a search conducted through the Virtual Health Library (VHL) collection, in the following databases: Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), Brazilian Nursing Database (BDENF), and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), using the association of descriptors (DeCS) in English: natural childbirth, nurse midwives, humanizing delivery, and pregnant women. To connect the descriptors, the Boolean operators AND and OR were used, for the period from 2019 to 2024. Results: Ten articles were selected based on the databases and research that responded to the research question. Conclusion : It is concluded that the obstetric nurse and their team play a fundamental role in providing quality care to women before, during, and after labor. However, it is the obstetric nurse who remains present from the initial stages through to continuous postpartum care, as they are responsible for family planning and also for newborn care.
