Abstract:
Objective: This article aims to understand the relationship between excessive use of
social media and anxiety symptoms in adolescents, considering psychosocial
aspects and the transformations of the digital age. Methodology and Results: The
research has a qualitative approach and is based on and developed through a
literature review. The articles for the review were searched on the Google Scholar
platform between August and October 2025, using descriptors related toadolescence, anxiety, and social media. After screening, twelve academic works
were selected, including articles, book chapters, and undergraduate theses. After
analysis, it was concluded that prolonged use of social media is related to increased
symptoms of anxiety, difficulties with self-control, sleep disturbances, and changes in
social relationships. Conclusion: It was found that the joint action of family and
school plays a fundamental role in mediating the use of technology and promoting
mental health. It is also concluded that psychology professionals should propose
educational strategies and actions that encourage the balanced use of technology
and the strengthening of bonds, thus contributing to the well-being of adolescents.
