Abstract:
The teaching of Libras in schools aims to seek the formation of an inclusive and
transformative society. The act of learning and teaching Libras is the art of listening to
the voice of the heart through gestures. This monograph aims to analyze the
importance of Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) as one of the fundamental elements in
the construction of Brazilian linguistic identity, aiming at its appreciation and
implementation as a curricular component in basic education for deaf and hearing.
Aiming at the formation of an inclusive community, which recognizes the Sign
Language (Libras) and participates actively in the deaf culture and community. It will
address the legislation governing the teaching of Libras as a mandatory curriculum
component in schools and its allocation to the school curriculum, bringing the relevance
of training and specialization of professional teachers in the process of inclusion and
communication of the deaf, and the acquisition of Libras by listeners and the
importance of AEE in inclusion. The methodology used in the research is exploratory
and qualitative. And the other considerations and conclusions of the field research will
be presented at the end of writing this monograph.
