Abstract:
The present study aims to investigate the damages to the development of individuals
with autism due to the family's difficulty in accepting the diagnosis. The research highlights the importance of the family in the individual's development and how it can
act as a support for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), such as children
with autism. Parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often face
feelings of fear, guilt, and anguish that can interfere with their psychological aspect, as well as face prejudices and discriminations for having a "strange child" at home. Therefore, it is essential that the family recognizes the diagnosis and seeks the
necessary care for the autistic child, minimizing the damage to their development
process. The research used a bibliographic methodology, with information collected
through searches for articles on Google Scholar and books by authors who
contribute to the formation of this article. The chosen theme is justified by the
concern of many parents with children diagnosed with autism, who often feel lost, excluded, and unsure of what to do, as well as to meet the high demand of parents
who receive this diagnosis.
