Abstract:
As one of the most used treatments in the therapy of canine epilepsy, phenobarbital
remains one of the best drugs when it comes to seizures. It is still necessary that
each case be analyzed individually and hypothetically, and should be accompanied
by a professional. In view of this, the aim of this work is to describe the cause of
canine epilepsy, including the signs, symptoms and treatments focusing on the use
of phenobarbital as the drug of choice for the treatment of canine epilepsy. To this
end, a literature review was developed along the lines of an integrative review with a
qualitative approach in studies on the use of Phenobarbital in the treatment of
epilepsy in dogs. The databases consulted were: PubMed/Medline (National Library
of Medicine and National Institutes of Health); LILACS (Latin American and
Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences).
