dc.description.abstract	As one of the most used treatments in the therapy of canine epilepsy, phenobarbital remains one of the best drugs when it comes to seizures. It is still necessary that each case be analyzed individually and hypothetically, and should be accompanied by a professional. In view of this, the aim of this work is to describe the cause of canine epilepsy, including the signs, symptoms and treatments focusing on the use of phenobarbital as the drug of choice for the treatment of canine epilepsy. To this end, a literature review was developed along the lines of an integrative review with a qualitative approach in studies on the use of Phenobarbital in the treatment of epilepsy in dogs. The databases consulted were: PubMed/Medline (National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health); LILACS (Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences).	pt_BR

dc.description.resumo	Como um dos tratamentos mais utilizados na terapia da epilepsia canina, o fenobarbital segue sendo um dos melhores medicamentos quando o assunto são crises convulsivas. Ainda se faz necessário que cada caso seja analisado de forma individual e hipotética, devendo ser acompanhado por profissional. Diante disto, este trabalho tem por objetivo descrever as causas da epilepsia canina, seus principais sinais, sintomas e tratamentos focando no uso do fenobarbital como medicamento de eleição para o tratamento da epilepsia canina. Para tal foi desenvolvida uma revisão de literatura nos moldes da revisão integrativa com abordagem qualitativa em estudos na temática do uso de Fenobarbital no tratamento de epilepsia em cães.
